I use my 97 F250 7.3L Diesel to pull my horse trailer. A couple of months ago, it would not start after cranking just fine a few minutes before. The engine would turn over, but it would not start. After pumping the gas pedal & letting it sit for a few minutes, it started up. Recently, the check engine light came on and the engine started skipping. Then it ran fine again. This has happened a few times before. I'm afraid to trust it to pull my horse trailer, but when I took it to dealership, they could not find anything. Of course, it didn't happen when I took it in. Any ideas of what might be going on?

 

Next time it does this check your fuel bowl and see if it's topped off or empty. But a CEL is telling me that it might even be a weak hpop. Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable chimes in.

 

Scan the truck for codes, If the CEL came on, it stored a code... You need to find out what that is.

Sounds to me like UVCH wiring...

Thanks so much for your responses! I only had about a quarter tank of fuel when truck was running rough this week. I will have the items you mentioned checked out. Obviously, I am not mechanical, and you guys have been very helpful. Will let you know what I find out!
