Hey guys, i'm somewhat new to the whole diesel world and wondered, since i am not an owner yet, what some of your thoughts were on what diesel truck would be best. I know diesel basics, and have been thinking about gettin something like a 98 or 99 cummins, or possibly a 96 or 97 7.3l stroker. I'm just wanting to do some research before i even consider buying my first diesel so i know what im getting in to. I'm looking to spend less than $9,000 initially. Not gonna do a ton of towing right away, maybe every now and again but its mainly gonna be a daily driver, so i'm looking for good mileage. (I definitely want a 5 or 6 speed manual)

 

How big of a cab do you want? Do you want 4wd or 2wd? Why 98 or 99 cummins? Are you saying you want either a 12v or a 24v?

 

Extended/ crew cab, I like that body style from that year, I was thinking 12 valve has to be 4wd. I'm not stuck on cummins either, I've just heard a lot of good things especially the 5.9 liters.

98 was the last year for the 12v. find a 94-98 12v with a 5 speed behind it, one can be found with lower miles for under $9k.
