get rid of the smarty , the ewg would be the first step in doing this, I am getting ready to put in the prototype head gasket i have to see how it holds up, going to run it with the mightey diesel head bolts, which are better then stock but not as good as arp 2000s. Everyone is dead set on 625s and thinking it is a fix but there has been numerous people blow gaskets still running 625s, I think the gasket is the weak link for sure, and once a better gasket gets made it will fix the problems, if not or until then it seems an ewg is the only fix and keep the drive pressure no higher then 45-50 psi with the stock turbo

I am not going to say either way on the but smarty is not the only cause of blown headgaskets on our trucks I have blown mine 2 times both times I had H&S tuning on it ,but as nic said here egw with help ,but it wont fix it for sure (last time I blew mine I had studs, egw and a larger turbo on the truck). Nic is also correct on the 625s although I'd rather have them than the 425s personally anyhow my point being studs will only fix some of the problem. Drive pressure is only some of the problem. cylinder pressures in these things are insane. Nic is pretty much right on the money WE NEED A BETTER GASKET
If it where me I'd do some serious thinking about my final goals for the truck and pull the trigger on a stouter gasket.
Anyhow not trying to **** on anyones boots but just my .02

here in three weeks I should have my prototype head gasket installed, I am going to install it with the mighty diesel head bolts, and thats it. i am going to install a drive pressure gauge and watch the drive pressure on it, but I am not installing a ewg. i am thinking the gasket is the weak link here and with a different gasket 625's and ewg will not be needed. The mls gasket works fine on the 5.9s but not on the 6.7s, I think with a different gasket, and arp 2000s or the mighty diesel head bolts no one will blow agasket on a moderate modded 6.7. I dont think my gasket is gone yet, but it does show sure signs off leaking every once in a while.

has anybody tried fire rings made out of something other then stainless steel?...not sure what one would use...fire rings stop the problem but on a street truck your lookin at changin the rings around every 30k miles because they will break....if someone could come up with a material that would stand the heat yet stand the heat cycles i think that would be the ticket
