grinding 7.3

i
I recently purchased a 1996 F450, it runs great but it has started to miss and grind at an idle. please help i dont know where to start.

i had that happen to my old truck. i was told piston slap on 1 and 2. i still need to tear the engine down to see exactly what it was but pull the engine and rebuild it. is it a really nasty grinding noise?
