Default trans help

i got a 47re in my truck and it's jimmy riged together, rachet shifter that i can't adjust right and it's driving my crazy. if you adjust the cable to have the trans go into 1st then it will not go into park. so needless to say my truck takes off in second gear and is like a snail. is there a better way to shift this thing or should i swap to a manual trans like the 5400? i have no computer in the truck either and the trans has the stock valve body so as of now i take off in 2 shift to 3 and then i have switch for od and tq any help would be awesome
