Default Winch question

So I can get a pretty good deal on a Warn 8274 from a good friend of mine, I don't think it's quite rated heavy enough for my truck, but I also know those 8274s have a very good reputation for being tougher than they are rated for. I'm not going to be using it every weekend or winching 8 different trucks up a tough trail, more for when I do something stupid or get in trouble in the woods or to winch a log or deer, stuff like that. I already have a ****** block, which I know really helps and an extra 76' of 3/8" cable. I'm not sure what my truck weighs exactly yet, going to go weigh it by this weekend. I tried searching for some info about 8274s on fullsizes and didn't come up with much, was wondering if anyone here had any thoughts, info or experiences with something like this.

how much is the warn 8274 rated for?

8274 pounds?

if so then if you get stuck it wont pull you out. a good rule to go for is,
1 + .5 your truck weight = winch rating to get.

i have a 78 half ton that an 8k winch wont barely move it if i get stuck, i switched to a 12k winch and wow. love it.

but i would def get a warn winch! i spent more replacing my cheap winchs then buying a new warn!!

since you dont know your truck weight just take a close guess

i would just say prob no more then 7k with just you in it.

so that would be 7000 + 3500 = 11000 pounds winch rating to be safe.
mud makes your truck weigh much much more
