Temp gauge going crazy
Would love to know if anyone else has come across this problem . My temp Gauge keeps maxing to the red for about 1 second setting off the warning , When it first did it i checked radiator temp , Was normal, So replaced the sender unit , No change . So took it to the dealer , who said it needed computer updates , They did the updates . No change , Next they said it needed a new Instrument cluster , Did that , still no change , After that the tech told me he did not know what was causing the problem . Also No codes showing ..
Note, it sometime dose it first thing in the morning when not even warm ..
Friend of mine thinks it may be a bad ground somewhere ..

Ok...not sure how much you know or dont know about how your trucks works so if some of this is common knowledge to you then tell me to shut up. But for the sake of everyone else who doesnt know:
Late model GM trucks (GMT-800 series) operate on a data-bus system. Everything on the truck communicates with a control module and doesnt have a direct link. ie...your temp gauge isnt directly wired to a temp sensor. The Engine Control Module (ECM) reads the inputs from all the sensors on the engine. It then translates that information and sends it to the proper place (gauge or another module). This requires a TON of ground wires because there is X amount of resistance required to be maintained in order for the control modules to read properly and send data. If you changed the temp sensor, updated the software and even changed out the instrument panel then most likely you have a ground wire in the temp gauge loop that is momentarily loosing connection. Its not going to be an easy job figuring out which one because there are a ton of them and certain parts of the system requires grounds to be working in other parts. Shoot a PM to RTToys and tell him to respond to this thread.

Hey DD, Thanks for All the info , Kinda figured it would be something like that ..I do have access to a friends shop but tracking down the fault sounds like it could be a nightmare .
It runs normal when it happens but it is the constant beeping that is driving me nuts , Is there any way of killing the Warning Beeper .

I am having the same issue with my 03 Duramax 2500HD , I did replace the module and internal harness and did not fix, i am leaning towards the ground issue, does anyone have a schematic of where most of them would be located to start looking?
