Default temp gauge not working?

as title says the temp gauge not working is it some thing with thermostat or a censor? it went from working to some times works to nothin

Should be located right up by the thermostat housing

At least on the 98's the sensor is actually on the driver's side of the cylinder head close to the firewall.

ya mine was on the back of the head drivers side
