Default TransGo for a TorqShift

Has anyone used a TransGo shift kit? I found one through a DB link for about $45. I was thinking it would be a good time for the 08 pan upgrade.

no references to what your programmer does for the trans, I like mine and am not taking it out any time soon.

IIRC the Suncoast unit use the Trans go kits as part of their builds. I can't say if I have ever read of anyone using the kit alone.

stock 5r110's already have a triple disc converter factory. These trannies will take quite an abuse. Not sure how well it will hold up behind the cummins though. The torque output is just way different.

Seems like all I've seen was it was a waste of time to install the trans go since it can be fixed with tuning. Since you've made it abundantly clear you dont want to do that, I guess it couldn't hurt.

As long as you're not beating a dead horse about programmer information that I asked to leave out, a little hi-jacking about other trans mods isn't a bad idea.

Tuning can do more than a shift kit can.

Can you elaborate on this claim?

I am VERY well aware that you are an SCT die hard and "promote" it every chance you get, but, aside from the seat-of-the-pants dyno, where do you base this claim? Have you compared a shift kit to the tuner in the same type vehicle, ie TorqShift to a TorqShift, NOT to a 4-speed auto?

Read carefully, I said it can do MORE I didn't say one was better than the other.

I "promote" SCT because it is a pretty well known fact that it is safer and can produce the most power.

The 5R110 is electronically controlled, so it makes it far easier to make adjustments through electronics!

If you go to transgo's website, the brief and vague description doesn't really make it sound like something I would even want or need. It cure's "runaway pressure that breaks case lugs".... Have you ever heard of this happening on a 5R110?

Not trying to start anything since I am by no means a transmission expert, but I am open for discussion...

OK, just talked to the techs at Transgo. This shift kit is not like the old valve body drop, spring swap from the days of old. In fact the trans must come out and the pieces go in the pump. There is also added converter efficency.

The runaway pressure refers to programmers pounding too much pressure to the trans and cracking the case. This sounds much like what happened to my friend's 5R110 using a Super Chips. It shifted so hard that it would spin 38s with a loaded car trailer, ultimately destroying the transmission.

In short, this is a good idea when swapping a converter. I'm going to have to give the advantage to the SCT this time if you don't have the time, money, or tools (that trans is extremely heavy) to do a converter swap.
