Default 2001 Powerstrok 7.3l vs 1998 12v

Alright guys, My buddies got a 2001 ford 7.3l with a selectable chip in it, What all do you think I would have to do in order to beat him? His is a 3/4 ton 4wd and mines a 98 12v 1ton dually. I have so far had my buddy who owns CTX performance do a little work on it which included: cold air intake, re ground the fuel plate, and did something to the afc housing. I'm trying to figure out which injectors to go with and whether I should go with a 3k or 4k gsk. Both trucks are automatic... Any help is appreciated!

built trans with a good input shaft is a must when racing any of these autos.

I had a '99 6spd 2x4 psd w/ an intake, exhaust and blocked off wastegate. It was fun and would skip around pretty good (even wasted a v10 f250 pretty good)

My dually 1-ton cummins with ONLY a 30$ ebay fuel plate and the muffler/cat cut off would run circles with my psd several times over without looking back. A 7.3 with a custom tune (tony wildman, dp etc) will only be able to push 305hp to the flywheel TOPS on the stock turbo. Even with bigger injectors that PSD wont be seeing over 360hp to the flywheel w the stock turbo.

Go have fun

Oh and go with some stage I or II sdx injectors, a 4kgsk+60lb springs OR a 3kgsk w/ stock springs.

Which stage would be better and would your go with the sdx ones over the 370's? I like alotta smoke, so if the only reason to go with the sdx ones is due to less smoke id prolly be better off with the 370's.

get the 4k and watch the tach, don't be to proud to shift cuz you'll land in the sweet spot and its all power till you get worried. as far aas the 370's i got some and don't really smoke unless i'm on the low end of things

So you would rather have heat and smoke over power?

Lots of smoke and power go hand in hand don't ya know.

If you want to really impress him walk the dog on him with as little smoke as possible.

I'm not saying I'd rathe rhave smoke over power, but I'm saying that I do like the smoke, and if the sdx ones dont have much power advantage then I'd go with the 370's. I'm just trying to figure out which ones would go best for my application. Is a 4k gsk too much if the truck is an automatic?

Yes, ots a stock tranny, but I don't 'dog' it a lot, and the truck only has 180,000 highway miles. Really think the tranny won't last long?
