Turbo Trouble.
I just sold my 86 f-250 and traded a guy for 86 f-350 one ton non dually 4x4 four speed. It is N/A and I'm selling my gas rig and planning on using the money to buy a turbo kit for my one ton. So I didn't mind the banks kit on my old 86 but was wondering what else is out there. I'll probily only get 1500 out of my gasser or hopefully more. So what turbo has its pro and cons and the best bang for your buck. ATS, Hypermax, or banks. Any input will help.
I have heard there is no real difference between the turbos available. With or without a wastegate will be the only real difference. If money is an issue the hypermax kit had a price drop a few months back, down to about $1800.
Alright I can understand that. I wouldn't mind not having a wastegate cause in the long run I like to run my truck up to 20 22 psi max or something along those line you can. I was even day dream with a compound set up but I'll be making sure everything is studded. Now hypermax the kit that is $1800 does that include everything cause when I looked on there site and some said turbo alone was close to that. And $1800 is way cheaper that ATS's aurora 2000 for close to $2100.
The Factory turbos and the ATS turbos were mounted more towards the passenger side of the motor at the back, right above the last glow plug. The banks and hypermax turbos are mounted in the middle. I have an ATS turbo, and it took me over an hour to change that one glow plug.
