Default turbo questions

installed a new turbo on my 92 1st gen cummins. The wastegate is on the bottom after getting everything lined up. Problem is, the hard line(drain)going to the pan was hitting on the gate so we cut it and added tubing. Question is: How important is it to have the injection port on top and the drain on bottom straight up and down? And, do I need high temp tubing going to the pan? How or what to use to keep from kinking when going underneath the wastegate to the pan hard line? Help
