Default How Heavy Have You Towed?

Well, it's harvest season here and we just found out one of the local farmers has colon cancer and is scheduled for surgery this weekend. My Dad, brother and myself have been spending the last few days trying to get his soybeans combined and drug in before the weather takes a big dump on us again. Since I'm the only one who has a diesel truck, I got "volunteered" to drag the grain trailer back and forth from the farm to the elevator in town. Have made about a dozen trips so far, with 329 bushel (at 60 pounds per bushel) being the biggest load. The attached weigh slip isn't that particular load, but it represents a good average. Anyone else up around that?

I have the same grain trailer except I put extensions on the box. Now it holds 475 bushels. I put around 8000 miles a year on it.

You guys got me beat, I was only at 26,320 with this load. But I was pulling this from San Diego Ca to Covis NM. My truck did not like me going through the mountans.

The law kinda turns a blind eye during harvest season when it comes to loads like that. Funny thing is, the farmer who we were helping uses a 2001 Chevy 2500 HD with the 6.0L GASSER and 4L80E automatic to pull that trailer. I used that truck for the first load because it was already hooked up. Talk about transmission slip! Engine had to get up to 2200 rpm's before the truck/trailer would even start to move! Once I'd get it going, it didn't do too bad, unless you hit a hill, then it was right down to 25 mph.

He's been kicking around the idea of upgrading to a Duramax, but wanted to see how the diesel did vs the gasser. I had him sold when I started a load in his driveway, UPHILL, using 2-hi, first gear and leaving the engine at idle. He just shook his head and said "that's all I need to see".

Bad news is we didn't get all the beans off before it started raining. I called it a day at 6:00PM simply because I work the midnight shift and had been down there since I'd gotten off work that morning and still had to go back in that evening. Dad and my brother stayed till just after midnight, when the rain started. At least everything we took off was either taken to the elevator in town or put away in the bins by the time it started. Now we'll just have to wait till things dry out to finish the beans and start on the corn.
