Default 6.5 timing issues

I have rebuilt my original engine replaced the 20 to 1 pistons with 18 to 1 ceramic toped
pistons had no wear on cyls crank or cam runs great problem is I have been running
a mechanical inj pump for years everyone telles me that to set the timing must have
old school timing light. any ideas where to find such an animal?

Can't use a timing light on a diesel. Need to tilt the pump to the drivers side to advance or the passenger side to retard. Should be 3 nuts that hold the pump to the engine.

you also need a tech 2 scanner or autoengunity to set the tdco beside turning the pump to complete the timing on a electronic 6.5

this injection system has no connection to yhe computer at all dont think a scanner will
help much but thanks for the input.

I understand turning of the pump to set timing the timing light im' talking about clipped on no 1 injector line sensed the pressure and gave you a signal to set the timing on the first 6.2 and 6.5 why else would they put timing marks on the engine at all.

well folks just wanted to drop a linejust drove 96 GMC crew cab dual on vacation
drove to fla and back over montegal mt in TN. 18 to 1 pistons are the way to go
she ran up the mt 63 mph 12 pounds torbo 950 exaust temp 190 engine temp. I LOVE IT guess I must be pretty close on the timing with the mechanical pump. Drove over 2,300 miles not glitch one. Hope everyone has this much luck with there truck.
