Default Need 6.2 fix advice

Long winded reader beware. I burned up the rod bearings on cyl 3&4, oil pump sized. I went and found a 6.5 turbo engine suposedly running. As luck would have it it was done. No compression cylinders 1&6. So wasted $400. A friend gave me 82 red block short block. Acording to him he got it from a guy who pulled it at 100000 miles to replace it with a new crate engine with a banks turbo. What I want to do is take my 83 plus heads from the bad rod bearing engine. ( I looked at the heads they look fine). Then use the 93 6.5l turbo and serpentine acessories to finish it off. I have Plans to use ARP head studs. And a diesel services stud girdle to help cope with the new pressures of the turbo. My question is can I use the block as is no new rings/bearings and be ok? I don't have the cash for a $600 re ring kit. Also I inspected the rings and bearings they look just fine no abnormal wear or anything. I can also see faint cross hatches in the cylinders. Any input would be great.

Clint

first beware of the girdles for 6.5. they dont really do much. if you really want a girdle make or get a custom one that actually does its job. i know its a pain and by the looks of it you dont have a ton of money so ditch the girdle and get new rings.

with new rings it should last a bit longer. but after saying that you got to remember that your putting a turbo on a engine not meant for it so it wont last as long as a regular naturally aspirated 6.2 or turbo 6.5. but with some tender loving care and good maintenance it should last a long time.

since its a 82 you need coarse thread injectors and i doubt the those injectors will be able to fully keep up with the turbo so be ready for a little loss of power. i would also turn up your pump while your at it

Well thanks for the input. I have a few questions. Would the 6.5 L injectors be better in the 83 plus heads I'm going to use? Is it a good idea to put new rings on old Bearings? I cant really afford to do the whole thing. The stud girdle is for a 6.2 Block are these any better than the 6.5L ones? What does one that really works look like? Who makes it ect ? I had plans to turn the pump up and I have the gauges to keep tabs on it.
Thanks for the info

yes it would because the 6.2 ones cant flow as much

Sorry not sure on that

that stud girdle wasnt meant for a turbocharged 6.2 it was for longevetity on a abused naturally aspirated 6.2. im not saying girdles dont work on these engines im saying the girdles available are not very good. if you get a custom girdle that is desighned right it will work very well

Very good idea

Thanks for the info

my notes are in red

Copy thanks for the advise. Wish I didn't have to do this on the cheap. It kills me to not have everything perfect but cash is the kicker. If money wasn't an issue I'd do a cummins swap and go like gangbusters.
