Default E.G.T's how hot is to hot?

Hello all. I just want to know how high I should set my alarm for EGT on a 99 7.3 I really dont want to melt it down. Thank you.

Maybe set it for 1350 if your gauge reads that high.

it depends on where the EGT probe is located. if it is in the manifold before the turbo then 1200-1300 would be safe but not for a sustained ammount of time. if it is in the down pipe then i would venture to sat nothing higher than 800* due to the difference in temperature between pre and post turbo....

1200-1300 is the max safe for SUSTAINED amount of time, according to Dodge and Cummins.

I don't know if it would be a hundred or so degrees different for the Powerstroke.
