biggest issue with the DPF especially on the new Fords is the regen cycle as it causes a huge temporary slump in fuel economy and power, and there's been numerous issues with it since it came out. There's DPF delete kits available to bypass it, although it's not legal and will void your warranty. Same goes for modifying the EGR system. From what I know I don't think there's as many issues with the EGR system in terms of performance and maintenance issues.
