Default CPS issues (recall...)???

It could be completely unrelated and a bent push rod, but last week I picked up my truck from the shop after getting the rear end fixed... They did the CPS recall without my ok. I was pissed but o well...

Now this week I have a obivious miss, #8 fails a cont test and is at 4.5-4.7% value on AE...

What issues are people having with the new CPS's???

there are issues with them quiting, more was made out of it then there was... In over 750k of driving the PSD, I have had one quit on me.

My issue is with the one FORD put in under the recall. The new gray one is a POS, and is causing issues in LOTS of rigs.

Yep, that's what a lot of folks find with the new gray one. Most usually find two cyl that fail the CCT but #8 always seems to be one of them.

If you were not running the DP Tunes, I would suggest to get one of the blue Int. CPS's but Jody does not recommend running it with his tunes.

You may be able to snag one from the dealer since they just throw them away but you may have to go dumpster diving for it.

you could have asked them for your old part back but its probably too late now. ford is aware of some concerns with the new cps. but no driveability concerns. here is a service message posted by for to techs.

20322 SOME 1997 THROUGH 2003 MY 7.3L VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A PHANTOM P0284, P0281, P0278, P0275, P0272, P0269, P0266, AND/OR P0263 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
SOME 1997 THROUGH 2003 MY 7.3L VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT PHANTOM P0284, P0281, P0278, P0275, P0272, P0269, P0266, AND/OR P0263 DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTC) WITHOUT DRIVABILITY SYMPTOMS IN CYLINDER CONTRIBUTION TEST (CCT) ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A NEW STYLE (GRAY) CMP SENSOR. THE NEW STYLE SENSOR WOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED UNDER SAFETY RECALL 07S57. ENGINEERING IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON A RESOLUTION TO ELIMINATE THE PHANTOM CODES.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 07/03/2008

those 8 codes are for cylinder contribution/balance fault detected. 263-284 cyl 1-8

dead miss? i really really doubt you have a cps issue. basically what FORD is saying for right know is "no driveability" concern. only erroneous phantom codes showing up during cct.

i understand your frustration and i may be wrong, but i just cant see a cps causing a 1-cylinder dead miss. the cps and its function has nothing to do with or control the individual operation of the injectors. the pcm uses it for a rpm input, and fuel quantity/torque limiting control based on engine rpm and cylinder identification using a signature reluctor ring on cyl 1 and 4. the pcm also has the capabilty to sense and filter "noise" from a faulty or failing cps. small levels are ignored but higher levels with set a specific dtc.
