Mercedes Diesel To GM trans??
Anyone know of a company or individual building adapter plates to run a GM based transmission behind a 5 cylinder mercedes diesel? My local junkyards are fulll of the old 4 and 5 cylinder mercedes diesel motors and would like to mate one to a SM465 to put in my lil truck. Im new to the small displacement diesel scene but have been building cross-bred vehicles for many years. Any info would be appreciated.
I've done some more research and have found one company but its still under development and the estimated cost is going to be $1000 which seems a bit high for an aluminum plate and a few holes drilled in a flywheel. I'm thinking about picking up one of the early 4 cylinders engines and trans' this week and having a talk with my machinist next door to my shop and seeing if I can get something underway. I guess this thread went from looking for more information to see what kind of interest is out there for such an adapter.
Ya my machinist is a funny old man who just refuses to retire. I asked him about it and he said it wouldnt be a problem at all. Figured I'd just check and see if anyone else would be interested.. it would help me keep my material and machining costs down. I'll be pulling a motor this week and hopefully be underway on a design early next week. I'll keep posting updates about progress and costs here and keep checking back for any possible interest.
