Default 1971 Chevy K-20 Cummins Project.

Hello all,

I have a 1971 Chevy K-20 that I will be re-powering with a 1993 Cummins 6bt. Another mod I will making will be, making it a crew-cab. Trucks in possesion for parts for this build are a 1971 Chevy K-20, 1972 Chevy Suburban, 1993 W-250 Ex-Cab Dodge Cummins, and a 1968 GMC C-20. Any wisdom before I start on this adventure. The first thing I need to figure out is the trans, I have an Auto, and want to go Manual any suggestions. Thanks for your input.

All I can say is, I wish I had those trucks around...I LOVE those old Chevy's and a 6BT would compliment one very nicely, I know it does my '95 anyway...Post up your progress, I'll definitely be watchin

I'll check out Avalanche, thanks. And the guy over on Heartland is more than talented, there isn't a word to describe what he is, it's just perfection.

If you're wanting a manual, I'd be looking for an NV-4500. It's a 5-speed with a nice low 1st gear and over-drive 5th gear. They came standard on 1992 to 2004 Cummins Rams so it should bolt right up. For more info, look here: NV4500 Transmission Info, Conversions, Reviews

P.S. Sounds like a KILLER project!

Just my two cents, But I'd throw the CTD in the 'burbon and sell the chevy and the dodge body for project cash.

Unless you just want a truck, then substitute k-20 for the 'burbon. But, like I said, just my humble opinion. Any combo of old iron and modern CTD power will be sweet.
