It will be driving fine and all of a sudden the engine will race and the RPMs will jump up like it’s overloading fuel/like I’m pushing on the accelerator but I’m not. To stop it from happening I need to put it in neutral and/or sometimes I have to shut the engine off.

i have not a clue as to what’s happening.

It’s a 95 Cheyenne, 6.5l Turbo Diesel with only 74,000 miles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
