Default Retro fit lift pump 2004.5

Hello all! Im new to the forum and new to the world of diesels... I installed a new lift pump in the tank not realizing their was one on the filter housing. Bumped the starter to get lift pump to start and nothing happened. I checked continuity to make sure no wires were broke up to the plug behind front drivers side wheel well. All turned out good. I then looked at the other side of the plug and the hot wire wasnt even in the socket. I then took the wheel well plastic out tracing for that orange/red wire... still nothing. Basically the question i have is why would they have a lift pump in the tank with no hot wire? I thought the retro fit pump kit was the in tank or do I have that backwards? My other question is what if I would (and i hate rigging stuff)take that plug out of the back of the lift pump on the filter housing and splice into it run new wires back to the lift in the tank. Find hot and ground cut the two outter ones n splice it together leaving the two blue fuel gauge ones in the middle? I have looked all over for a harness to go from the old lift pump to the intank lift pump. One more question if all of this worked out would the pump on the filter housing allow fuel to be pumped through it like a bypass? Sorry about all the questions and the long story but I know what its like to try fixing stuff through the internet without seeing it. haha Thanks and appreicate it in advance

If you have the factory pump still on the filter housing that's where your hot is on mine that never got transferred to the tank the plug in on top of the tank is just for the fuel gauge, I bought an airdog 150 and it's pretty nice you get better throttle response and you won't ever run your pump or rail empty. If you can afford it get a fass or airdog

Thank you for the fast reply! yeah i have been kicking around about getting one but trying to get these little bugs worked out of it first. I got the lift pump to work today and bled the low side to the cp3 . Cracked 1 3 5 injector lines. got it to start for a few seconds so i re bled a few more times. Now i have a crankshaft position sensor code. not sure if its because of the issue im having now or maybe thats why it wont start. I could keep throwing parts at it but it can get expensive what do ya think?

It's worth the money and it's the first thing you need before anything. A good programmer can run the stock pump and rail dry. If you don't plan on going big a 95 or 100gph pump should work fine and avoid the tank drop and draw straw
As to your other problems there are much wiser than me because I'm stumped

Actually I never thought about that but I do have a Banks 6 gun tuner on the truck. I Keep it on level 2 which i dont think is much over stock. How much are those air dogs going for? best site to buy? I noticed when tightening my injector lines my injector tubes were spinning. I cant get a wrench on them to tighten them. Do they make a tool for that? I dont know how anybody works on these... its like stuffing ten pound of crap in a five pound sack thanks again

I like dieselautopower they're good on all prices and probably around 600 for a 100gph system but not sure but you have to take the lines off your rail and the connector tubes to tighten the 15/16 nut with a torque wrench it's all pretty easy except #2 and you have to take off the air horn and grid heater but I've done it many times and it's pretty easy
