Default 7.3 DI Powerstroke Oil Fill Question

I just bought this pickup recently and wasn't too worried about it at the time, but I can't figure out this oil fill:

It looks like it needs some kind of special tool to uncork it. I haven't found anything in the owners or shop manual to help me (though I will admit I may have missed it).

Does someone know what they are looking at and can help me understand it?

Thank you,
Asa Jay

looks like the top of the oil cap has separated from the bottom it acts like a gas cap when you tighten it, it clicks so you cant over tighten mine did the same thing I had to get a new one and had to take the valve cover off the get it out it was a pain. but it can be done. good luck.

Aha, that makes sense. Now that you mention it, I have at least two other cars with the "clicking" style oil cap (like the newer gas caps). I'll research getting a replacement and then worry about taking the old one out.

Thank you for bringing clarity to the situation.

Mine did the same thing. I just use a pair of channel locks and it works fine.

Yes, a pair of needle-nose pliers got the old one out just fine, though I will say it was in there kind of tight. I bought a new one from Ford for about the same price as ebay and it works fine now.

Thank you for the help,
Asa Jay
