Default new to the diesel mod life

Ive had diesel trucks forever but never done any mods to them. I have a 08 250 with roughly 52k on it. its under warranty for 4 more years or till 100,000 miles. so this is my question/problem... the fuel mileage. i get 12 if im lucky and i dont have a heavy foot. I'm wondering if there is a chip that i would install that wont show up and void my warranty? if not what options to i have and whats been your experiences. im sure this question has been asked a million times and i apologize for asking again. thanks for the input

Unless you buy a DPF/delete tuner & do a dpf/cat/egr delete, you're not going to get much of an improvement on your MPG

thanks for the reply. so this will obviously void the warranty. is it worth it? i just heard lots of horror stories about guys blowing engines and all sorts of stuff by chipping a truck and doing other mods. will this help the life of the truck and performance?

Get the dpf delete and a tuner they both are easy to install and can be put back in and check with your dealership. My mustang 2008 GT with cams, throttle body, heads, long tube borla full system XR, 3.73 gears, and a custom tune, not including the other 10G that went to the body was covered under warranty when the bottom end gave out the dealer didnt mind they get paid either way just depends on the individual running talk to the service supervisor and they may be mod friendly. I got a new motor 7G$ not a penny out of my pocket and they re-installed alot of the mods. I hope this helps! And anything that will go wrong will be not because of the mods it will be the flaws the truck has unless your just abusing it. I wasnt abusing the mustang it was just one out of a million that went wrong.

Get the H&S XRT Pro tuner, DPF/CAT delete pipes, and definitely upgrade the Cold Air Intake (I prefer S&B). I would replace the factory intake with an S&B Cold Air Intake even if I wasn't going to mod the truck. The tuners will copy your stock tune when you install them. I've read where some guys have kept their DPF and CAT. If they needed to take their truck in for service they would return to stock tune and replace the DPF and CAT.

There are court cases (can't recall any names) that have upheld the manufacturer's warranty after mods have been done when there was powertrain failures.

If you have around $2000 to spend I would highly recommend the mods. YOU WILL LOVE YOUR TRUCK EVEN MORE! Good luck.

Just a couple of questions and i know they are asked frequently heck even on this page was it asked but i have a 2008 6.4 just bought a H&S xrt pro race tuner (used) do i have to do a vin unlock? 2 just purchased my flo pro 4inch dpf/cat delete pipe will that fit onto stock exhaust or do i need to do other modifications? 3 the EGR delete is that something else i need to buy or does my programmer bypass all of those so that i do not have to buy anything else? 4 what tunes/trans tunes are recommended for better mpg, i own a landscape company and i do a lot of intown driving interstate here highway there kinda driving some stop and goes not pulling anything really heavy just looking for better fuel mileage, any suggestions? 5 do i need a new intake upgrade? anything will help thanks for the time guys!!!!!!

1. I think you have to buy the new SD memory card from the manufacturer.

2. It will fit stock but you'll likely have to mod or replace the small pipe that originally connected the DPF to the muffler. I had to cut 4 inches off that pipe in order to put my DPF and CAT delete pipes on.

3. XRT Pro has the EGR deleted in the programming. You don't have to do anything as the tuner deletes the EGR system. You can leave the system in place or buy the kit to block it all off.

4. There are 3 shift schedules on the XRT Pro: Low - Transmission will shift at lowest possible road speed and it's best for fuel economy but I wouldn't tow in this level; Medium (Default) - This gives the tranny a good combination of torque and mileage; High - This level allows you to take advantage of more torque (pulling power for heavy loads). Transmission will shift at highest possible road speed.

5. Definitely upgrade the Cold Air Intake. The factory COI is extremely restrictive. I run the S&B COI and it makes a huge difference.

Hope this all helps.
