Default 24V Head on a 2nd Gen 12V Block?

If I have the rockers and push rods can this be done? Seems like it should work unless there is piston issues. I've got a lot of info from you guys, anyone have the nut here?

The pistons are different. You need 24v pistons to make the conversion.

I haven't looked inside of both, but, I'd expect a camshaft difference (need more bumps, I presume) and more galleries (wrong word, possibly) for the additional pushrods. I've heard of people putting P-pumps on 24-v engines, but, this might be the first conversion this way.

You'll at least need pistons, injectors, injector lines, exhaust manifold and some other stuff, but the cam will work.

Water Jackets in the head and a the gasket are designed alittle differently so you would need to mod the gasket. The pistons are different of course.... And the cam is the same cam from 89-2013... Just the 98 and olders have a lobe on the cam for the lift pump. Other than that the cam is the same between all the years

My question is why are you looking at putting a 24v head on it?

The way they get two valves to work from one pushrod is the rocker pushes another piece that pushes both valves

It's not really very complicated

Ahhh I was thinking something like that ... never have had them apart side by side to notice any differences.....

I would also look at the oil passage from the head to the block. I'm not sure if the 24v head perfectly aligns for oil passage and coolant ducts.

What are you trying to achieve by putting a 24v on a 12 valve block?

Technically speaking, except for some slight differences from casting year to casting year, the 12v and 24v blocks are the same. So you're not really putting a 24v head on a 12v block. You're just putting a 24v head on a block that used to have a 12v head on it. So it's the other 12v and 24v components that matter, not the block. It's a pointless swap, unless you toasted your current block and are looking for another.
