Default New 95, smoke question

Hey everyone,

Ok, so I traded my W350 extended cab (still feeling a little ill) for this 95 2500 extended 4x4. I needed a truck with a back seat so I could park two car seats inside. I have already identified a few things such as the transmission oil heater is leaking, the vacuum pump needs a reseal, and the throttle TV cable needs adjustment.

Question is, when I hit the throttle really quick, I get a plume of black smoke (< half sec). But if I roll into it really quick, no black smoke( > half sec). We're talking less than half a second difference in throttle action. What causes this? I'm used to the rotary VE pumps and how they behave. I know that I will eventually learn most of what there is to know about this beast, but I need to go through emissions in the next week or so. Hopefully they don't give me a hassle about catalytic converters. I don't even know if this truck had one. Don't see any aftermarket welding on the pipe....

You are giving it more fuel then in can completely combust in the quick depression of the throttle. When you roll into it the air to fuel ratio is optimal that is why no smoke is present.
