Default 48Re Issues

I have an 05 dodge 3500 diesel. I am having problems with the truck shifting between drive and second. looking at the shift selector inside the cab it erratically flickers between drive and 2nd. I have replaced the nuetral safety switch gov press sensor and solenoid but to no avail. it seems to be stumping everyone. driving if you watch the indicator the circle just flashes back and forth quickly. getting annoyed quickly. Has anyone ever had this happen?

Sounds like an issue with the cluster itself if the truck is acting normally

Rattler when driving it will shift erratically back and forth. And flicker on the display. The parts that were replaced were the parts the dealer came up with after scanning it and driving it. Replaced the nuetral safety switch twice

Im gonna assume that the transmission is not actually jumping gears on its own. right?
If thats the case then, like rattler said, it will likely be the cluster goofing up.

Yes tranny will shift erratically on its own back and forth between drive and second while driving down the road. It will go through the gears fine but when it acts up it will shift on its own

Do you have any mods, multi-stage programmer(s) stacked or not, that may alter trans shift patterns? If so, remove it/ them, and see if that clears up anything. Just tossing it out there.

Also check for trouble codes, and check all wires and connections at the transmission, as well as cleaning all ground contacts. There are several in the engine compartment.

If the lights on the dash are flickering back and forth adjust the shift cable. That may be part of your problem with the random shuttling also or you need to adjust the front band and\or work on gov solenoid and transducer.

How many miles on the trans? my tranny was shifting the same as you described without the dash flicker. Went about another 5000miles and second gear finally crapped out and I had to get a rebuild.
