Default 6.5 with 193k miles

I just bought a 96 silverado with 193k miles on it, got a good deal so I wasn't really concerned about the mileage. This was a fleet vehicle, and according the previous owner was maintained as such. It has a new waterump and alternator, turbo has been rebuilt and new master cylinder. I want this truck to last me as long as possible, anything I should do to it? I'm not going to be towing or hauling anything super heavy, just need it to be as reliable as possible a work truck. Did I make a mistake buying one with this many miles on it?

I wouldn't worry about 193k. Anything can happen at that mileage depending on how the truck was taken care of. I usually don't start worrying till over 300k.

Go through the cooling system and make sure that the cooling stack is clean, also get a EGT gauge installed as well as a boost gauge so you can monitor those parameters and drive accordingly.

Otherwise upgrade the exhaust when you can afford it and enjoy the truck.

I bought mine not to long about with over 280,000 on it. I dont regret it at all. Read around at a few of the quirks they have. Such as leaky oil cooler lines, bad pmd's, and that jazz. Racer had a good tip about the gauges too. Glowshift sells a 3 pack of gauges, with the pillar, for just under $200 so its a good buy.
