6.2 diesel glow plug relay LOUD

6.2 diesel glow plug relay LOUD
So my grandpa straight wired my glow plugs before he gave me the truck, and the relay has always been very loud and annoying. Last week it started going out so I put another on it. The new one is even worse. 
It sounds and feels like something inside is vibrating and is very annoying. You can literally hear it from a half mile away. Anybody have a clue what the issue is to how I can fix it??? Below is a pic of the relay. The blue wires go to a toggle switch inside the cab.

That is a ford starter solenoid,don't run it for more than about 10-12 seconds or it will crap out,might even weld itself engaged and burn out the glow plugs.
A better option would be a constant run snow plow solenoid-they are made to be engaged for longer duration.
As far as noisy goes,a solid click when you turn it on is a good thing.
The wiring from the toggle should be a wire from the battery side heavy terminal to the switch and back to the small S terminal on the solenoid.
The other heavy terminal should be the glow plugs power wires.
The other small terminal on the solenoid is not used.
What you have is known as a "manual glow plug override".
A better option would be a constant run snow plow solenoid-they are made to be engaged for longer duration.

It actually is a relay that is factory equipment on my truck. I ordered it from autozone and was listed as "glow plug relay." As far as the sound goes, I know it's supposed to "click" but this is much much more. It sounds sorta like when you are trying to turn a motor over with a dead battery but horribly louder.
I appreciate the reply, but I should have been more specific in my original post.
Could you please explain the wiring in more detail? There are two large posts, one hooked to the battery, and I haven't traced where the other comes from. There is a plug on the front, with two posts, and the wires go somewhere to the back of the block. One is red and one is green.

I highly doubt it is the proper glow relay for your truck,but could be wrong.
OK on 1 of the heavy side terminals you should have a battery connection and 1 wire from your switch.
The other wire from the switch should connect to the right hand small terminal.
The remaining heavy terminal should have the glow plug wires for each side of the engine connected to it.
The small left hand terminal should have nothing connected to it.
To the best of my knowledge.

NO WAY IS THAT A GM GLOW RELAY, it looks to be a add on that somebody installed for extended glow, which there is a right way and a wrong way to set that up, this picture thread should help you locate the GM glow control Part Locations

So I tried how racer55 said to wire it, and nothing happened. The glow plugs didn't come on. I am not having an issue of the plugs heating up. It's nothing to do with the plugs.
As far as it not being the correct relay, look it up. Duralast ss333. It is only found on the 82-84 6.2s. There is a factory plug on the truck that goes to it.

I would say that the relay is faulty and was properly connected before you changed it to my description.Better put it back like it was.
That or it is suffering from being under powered from a dirty feed connection or a bad switch,a bad ground could cause a similar effect as well.
If you touch a test light to the metal base does it light when the relay is in operation?
You could use a ford starter solenoid wired in the way I described if you prefer.

I put it back like it was and it works fine again... Just that same horrible loudness. Like I mentioned earlier, the 82-84 uses a different configuration. So would the conversion to the ford solenoid be the same as in the later models?

No it would be much like you have but quieter I expect.
Check all the wiring connections at each end and make sure that there is no corrosion,the pulsing of the relay sounds like low current flow through the coil in the solenoid.
Also check how the solenoid is grounded.
Try grounding the mount with some booster cables to the intake or battery ground?
I am of the opinion that the blue wires going to your switch were an add on to try and correct a fault with the factory wiring.
Might just have lost the ground?
Does the wait to start or glow plug light work?
Does the stock wiring on the small terminals ever get power when the switch is not in use?
