I have a 1990 7.3 I want to put a turbo on it but before I go spend 2500 on a system, can you take the factory turbo off a 94-97 7.3? What would you need to make this happen? The factory I believe is a non waste gated... Would that overboost the engine?

 

I'm about to attempt the same thing. I've read and heard several different things. From the motor won't even spool it to it'll be too much for the motor. I've got a turbo from a '95 I think, I'd have to look to be sure, but I believe it's a 1.5 Garrett . Guess I'll find out soon enough whether or not she'll run, and how good.

 

Are you referring to a turbo from a powerstroke (94.5-97)? The IDI's only came turbocharged from the factory in 94 and that was the last year they came in a ford. You can use a powerstroke turbo, but it wont bolt on, some fab skills will be required.

A 94-97 powerstroke turbo will spool up on an idi
