clutch recomendations
hello i need a new clutch. i am looking at three different companies. southbend, pheonix, and valair.the most important thing to me is single or dual disc. i have an 08 3500 dodge 6.7 with smarty tuner, banks intake, 5" flopro turbo back exhaust.only tow a 30' 5th wheel travel trailer occasionaly. any info/advice on clutch choice would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
do i really need a dual disc? i seen single disc clutches advertised by valair and phoenix that can handle 600/700 hp. and 1000# of torque +/- i would rather have a quieter single disc but at the same time if a dual disc lasts longer could go that way also what do you think?
i dont know if a dual disk would really last any longer but they will hold more abuse. i ran a south bend single for about 20k. then got crazy one night and ended up smoking it. im running the sb 3850 dd if i remeber right and i tow 38' 5th wheel and it does great i love it im not knockin valair clutchs at all. but i had a buddy went through several pressure plates the kept coming apart. keep in mind it was on the drag strip when they was coming apart. but i have banged the hell out of mine and never had any problems with sb. except when i was putting to much through the single disk
i want to thank you so much for your reply, was starting to wonder if anybody drove a clutch anymore.i have several questions and would appreciate any advice you could give.i have heard dual disc clutches are noisy while disengaged is this true?how loud are they?
On another note I'm brand new here, bought my 2008 3500 fairly recently. It has the Mini Maxx which I read so much good about here and it has a complete stainless with dual tail pipes but I don't know the brand. I also noticed that it has the stock air filter system which after much reading here I'll need to replace (probably order with the clutch) and the EGR system seems in tact (and still plugged in which scares me since I've read it's supposed to be unplugged).
Anyway, I'm liking the pickup so far and hope to like it more once I get rid of the clutch slip. Thanks in advance for any help.
