Hypothetically speaking a guy could cap off his filler neck at the tank end and fill it halfway with green. Then have a hidden filler neck going into the tank to pump the red in. Get caught with that though and claiming you put red in by mistake isn't happening.

 

thats not a bad idea (putting aside legal reasons). have a second tank, the "normal" tank never runs out of fuel

 

 

Except now they don't have to dip your tank......some can just take a reading from your exhaust. (Or so I've been told).

 

so anyone know what would be in the exhaust that would not be in exhaust from normal (white) diesel? seems that the dye going through the combustion process would end up like every other exhaust partical

 

There are two dyes simoultaneus used:
the red dye as an optical indicator and solvent yellow 124.
Solvent yellow 124 appears as yellowish color and is not visible in standard diesel.
7.3grams of SY 124 are used in 1000kg of diesel- so the amount is already very low.

Itensity is strong enough not to be dilluted after a couple of refills...
SY is checked by a probe taken from the fuel -when in doubt directly from the fuel filter in front of the engine.

 

I'vo only had my fuel checked once here in WNY and I was driving a company truck. They dipped in the fuel filler neck and did not check at the filter.

I call BS on that, they're gonna go to the trouble of coming up with somthing that detects dye in the exhaust

Oh ok I thought you were gonna tell me he was president of a company that develops chemical sniffers to detect dye in diesel fuel.

 

right now i believe the exhaust test is all hearsay. unless some chimes in to say it has happened to them, i wont believe it
