Either way I wouldn't risk it. Who cares if they have to dip your tank or sniff your exhaust, big money is big money.

I've never been tested. I would not chance running red diesel on the road. I have a buddy who got caught and was originally fined over $10,000.00. He never said what he eventually paid. I was told the future in testing was going to be the exhaust test. This would be quicker, easier and take the deception out of the test........just what I have been told by a guy in the business.

In what business ? What does president of a refinery have to do with law enforcement ? I could care less, can't even buy red around here unless you get it delivered like a farmer or somthing, but still I call BS on the exhaust sniffer for dye

They'd have to test the died fuel for emmisions compliance, so whatever difference exists in the chemical composition of the exhaust would be plainly evident. Simple matter for them to set up a sensor to pick up that chemical. Supervisor of a refinery may or may not have a clue. Just like anyone else on the interweb.

try making a dye that could go through a several thousand degree combustion cycle and not come out looking like carbon

and still be affordable to tint all of the off-road diesel in the US

anyone out there been sniffed for off road???

Try providing a dye to tint all the offroad diesel in the U.S. and not get it tested by the EPA

the EPA is only going to be concerned that it doesn't make the exhaust pollutants worse. weather it is still detectable is going to be the tax mans interest.

as far as i know is that the current test is just a visual check. compare the color to a chart kind of test. going from that straight to a chemical analysis of the exhaust seems a little far fetched to me.

i am not saying it is not possible it just doesn't seem plausible

Not president of a refinery, but the facilities manager ( he drives a 2000 7.3). I was told today that some State's DOT are already utilizing the exhaust test.
