I also used an Amsoil EAO oil filter. There is no bypass on the truck. My goal is to document the progression of the trucks oil in 25,000 miles. This means I will be changing it at 66,009 miles, or 1 year, whichever comes first. I plan on doing oil analysis every 5k miles or every 3 months, whichever comes first, and I WILL discard the oil if the oil analysis recommends that I do so. Would anyone be interested in the results of this? It might prove why Amsoil is THE oil to run.

For anyone interested in the effects of Amsoil on a gas engine, I will be performing the same experiment with my 1988 toyota pickup with a 22r motor. I changed the oil about 3k miles ago, and will have a sample pulled in another 2k miles.

Disclaimer: The Dodge only gets driven about 1 time per week right now, so it might take a while to get results

I've been doing this for years on three trucks and have all the oil analysis' and documentation to show the results. Now that they have the EA oil filters I only change it when I change the oil. My analysis usually tells me to change the oil and filter between 22-23K. Keep in mind that my truck gets abused hard, tow's heavy, and races often. BTW- I do my analysis every 8K.

what would the "average" or ballpark price be for the 4 gallons of Amsoil and the filter be?

That way it would be easier to compare to what I am spending every 4-5K or so on regular oil changes....

You make out like a bandit Brant. Get the by-pass filter system and you can REALLY save money. I know a couple of guys running the same oil and filters that I do with the by-pass system and they get 60K on oil changes according to analysis.

wow -- that is a lotta miles...

what affect does time have on the oil though -- cause it would take me forever to rack up that many miles...

we've had the truck about a year, well a year in march -- and have put 15K miles on it, or roughly 4 oil changes @ $75 each... the miles wouldn't be a problem, but its the time (more than 3-6 months) i'm curious about

The additive package in these oils are pretty robust. The oil itself would last much longer, it's the additives that get depleted over time. They've tested these and a year has not been a problem. If going long or more miles, then one needs to do OA to monitor where you are at.

I'm going on 9 months with my amsoil bypass system and it works great, but it is on my gas pickup and not the diesel.
