THINNER DIFFERENTIAL OIL
HAS ANYONE TRIED TRACTOR HYDROLIC FLUID IN THE PLACE OF DIFFERENTIAL OIL
HAS OR AM I A FOOL FOR THINKING ABOUT IT?

THE IDEA BEHIND IT IS THAT IS IT MUCH MORE FLUID THAT GEAR OIL IT HAS PRETTY GOOD SHEAR AS WELL AS HEAT TOLERANCE AND LONGEVITY WITH 50#+ OF METAL FLOATING AROUND IN THE FRONT AND REAR IT MAKE SENCE TO LUBE THEM WITH IT IF IT WOULD NOT HURT ANYTHING
QUESTIONS COMMENTS????

The gear lubes are GL-5 rated for our trucks. They contain high levels of extreme pressure additives. The hydraulic oils that I looked at make no mention of any EP additives and are not rated of course because they aren't made for that appliaction. If not EP adds, then you would be set up to lose a diff very soon.
HYDROLIC FLUID IS DOING THE SAME JOB ON A LARGER SCALE IN THE REAR END HOUSING OF ANY GIVE FARM TRACTOR NOT TO MENTION ALL OF THE "HEAVEY EQUIPMENT THAT IS USIING IT TOO AS A DIFF. FLUID
and the military uses engine oil as ATF so what?

and i wouldn't use hydraulic oil as diff lube either
