Default Oil additive?

I've heard some people saying they've added DOT30 motor oil to their diesel to clean up their injectors a bit I was wondering if this was true. I also did some research on it and I found people saying it makes your truck smoke like a freight train. Injectors are misfiring and I'll try anything as of now. Any suggestions?

2001 24v Cummins.

Gennerally if your injectors are missfireing, its because of an Internal issue in your injector either a worn poppet, or spring. Its best to just replace them and the cross over tubes the injectors for the Cummins 24V VP44 are relativley cheap. Bought Stock OEM ones for mine a year ago for 200 bucks... for all six. and its only about two-three hours of labor..

Just helps with the longivety of the injectors but thier better additives than engine oil in your fuel, use Diesel Power Additives in the white bottle or other suitable additives, but oil is not the best way to go... Before 2005 they did not have Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel and the sulfur help with upper cyliner lubreication, now with the low sulfur their less luberication so useing and additive will help but use a fuel additive not engine oil.
What keeps injectors clean is: Clean fuel, so change your fuel filter often and a clean cylinder burn if its missing the injector is dripping you can cause a stuck injector which will cause internal cylinder issues, if it is dripping or not fireing correctly you can wash the cylinder which will lead to damage as well

I just got my first diesel in December a first generation 12 valve. I was kind of scared to put my first bottle of fuel additive in did not know if it would knock a lot of stuff out of the fuel tank and clog my filter.
