Default Vertical shaft diesel engine?

I've seen several single cylinder diesels, but they all were horizontal shaft. Did anyone make a vertical shaft, either a single or twin? I'd like to replace the B&S 16hp twin on my lawn tractor.

I've seen some Kabota diesel lawn tractors, if I remember right they were vertical shaft.

And they start at about $2k for a twenty year old model. If I have to blow that much cash, I'll just buy a Kubota and use it.
Might just do that anyways, my AYP "tractor" isn't good for a whole lot.

Yanmar makes, or made, a v-twin, bout 18 horse if I remember. Deere used them for their 355 tractor and F735 front mounts a while back.
