Default GTP38R Installed

I installed the 38r today, I have to say that it does whistle a lot louder, but not what I was expecting on the performance side. I expected a little change in noticeable power, but not so much. Not sure if my expectations were to high or perhaps I need to wait til I get the TS Tuner installed. The TS should be here tomorrow or Monday, right now I have the SuperChip tuner running and figured I would have been able to notice more. Hmmmm, just not sure.

Need more fuel to make more power, the stock turbo is well suited for the stock injectors.

Lower EGT's?

I'm boosting the same as the stock turbo, right at 20 psi. Thought the boys at Alligator Performance told me it should boost into the mid 30's, but I don't think there was any clarification of whether that was with stock injectors or the 160's I plan on getting. I do like the way the 38r whistles.

I am selling my Honda FatCat to pay for the injectors and probably have pay someone to pull the stockers then re-install the new ones. After doing the 38r install, not sure I want to attempt R&R the injectors myself. I would love to help someone, but no shops around here will allow me help out and get in the way.

You should be making more then 20psi... How did your up pipes look, any leaks?

Did you install the O ring at the X pipe (on the outlet of the turbo)?

I intalled the o rings on the base where the turbo sits...the pipes all looked good...I am looking at the install sheet, and there isn't anything that says anything about an O ring at the X pipe...Now I am worried!

See the grove on the compressor outlet on this turbo, there should be an O ring there, about 2" round...

If its not there, there is your EGT and boost issue.

I did not install the O ring into turbo outlet...CSI, you are wise beyond your years...I just went into the garage and looked at the stock turbo and there was the O ring...and I overlooked the picture and warning on the install sheet about reusing the "the original discharge O ring"...Now I know I am not fit to be working on my truck...

Not a problem... A little RVT on that gasket helps hold it in place if its miss shaped at all.

Also, if you think about it, adjust the wastegate on the 38R, they love to leave them loose from the factory. I try and get two full turns on them.

I got the O ring installed and then ran the truck, I got 21-22 psi, that is better but I'm not sure if it should be more.

Not sure how to adjust the waste gate, I will try and look at it tomorrow...any helpful pictures to show the adjustment?
