First what they do is dampen dangerous harmonic vibrations that are created each time air/fuel mixture inside a cylinder is ignited. The combustion that occurs creates a torque spike that is applied to the crankshaft via the piston and rod. This spike is so sever it not only turns the crankshaft, it actually twists the cranshaft ahead of its normal rotation and then the crankshaft rebounds. The forces generated by the mass of the rotating assembly also cause the crank to twist and rebound. This is known as torsional vibration.

Most harmonic balancers are made of elastomer (rubber) and steel or just a plain pc of steel. These dampers are tuned or frequancy sensitive. They are designed to function throughout a narrow predetermined vibration frequancy bandwidth. When performance enhancements are made to a stock engine to increase h.p. and torque the stock damper becomes overworked because of its inablility to self tune to the increased harmonic vibrations that are generated. Dampers also creat heat while they work and elastomer is a poor dissapator of heat eventually breaking down causing damper failure and maybe worse damage to vital engine components.

Here is what i can tell you about Fluidampr. The differance in a Fluidampr is the unique engineering and design.Fluidampr invented this technology for diesel applications in 1946 and is now the preferred supplier to many major diesel OEM's. Fluidampr is frequancy insensitive and able to self tune to the exact frequancy bandwidth of engine harmonics at any given range. Fluidampr is made of a housing with a free rotating inertia ring and silicone that is 45000 times thicker than 30 weight motor oil. This very viscous silicone allows the inertia ring to shear through the harmonics with every stroke of the engine. Plus unlike conventional dampers, Fluidampr dampers never need to be tuned or rebuilt. In addition above everything else they are 100% engineered and manufactured in the USA!

Welcome to the site!!!

Good first post! Might have lost a few of us there, but good info none the less...

Fluiddamper works, and works well...

There is also a ATI damper that works quite well too!

What i have found being a member at many forums is that Fluidampr and ATI are like Chevy, Ford and Dodge. Depends on who you ask...

I know alot of racing guys prefer the ATI at high RPM's but in a diesel application I believe the Fluidampr is the cats !!

Not that I want to start the debate, because like I said Ive been down that road and it usually ends in a 30 page thread with no real winner. Both products American made beats the foriegn crap any day of the week.
