Default Just ordered parts

ok i just ordered the parts to fix the fuel bowl leak but had a question about the fuel filter.

I plan to change the fuel filter when i do the o-ring fix but whats the best way to get the cap off the fuel bowl? and... should i get some diesel to top the bowl back off before trying to start it back up or is it good enough to just cycle the key (fuel pump) off and on a few times? if so how many times? Mine is a 2001

i have to pull my camper to dealer Saturday morning for some work and when i get back im gonna get started on this.

thanks for your help.

if the filter cap is f-ed i take a oil filter wrench that will fit around it and i use that... look up a metal cap. i forget who sells them but they are only 20-40 bucks and save you alot of aggrivation

pair of pliers. stick the handles in the slots, stick a screwdriver between the handles. Go slow and twala! Lids off. You'll be fine just cycling the key a few times. But you can always get up top with a fuel can.

changed my filter (and fixed the valve leak) yesterday and damn what a difference it makes!!!! it sounds better, runs better, feels like a new truck. and with the fixed leak smells better. I added fuel to the bowl before replacing the new filter and added too much. when i screwed the cap on it overflowed quite a bit. is there a mark (fill line) to show how much to add?

fill it up and put a rag around the housing so when it over flows the rag catches it before it flows into the valley
