Default 27 MPG??

i'm tempted to call BS on this one but maybe you ford veterans can enlighten me.

2002 F350 ex-cab, 4x4. 2 inch lift on 35's. perf mods include afe stage 2 intake, diablo sport programmer, and 5" turbo back exhaust. gear ratio is unknown.

dude is claiming 27 mpg. ???

:bs:

I don't buy it. Maybe he doesn't know how to calculate MPG or he only checked it on a 5 miles decent down a mountain pass. I have the almost the same truck - with out the lift and tires - and if i really try and keep rpms at 2k and no more, i can reach 19-20 at best. He has a 7.3 and I have the 6.0 which is known to get about 6 mpg better than the 7.3. The gears on a F-350are 411s and at 63 mph your rpms are about 2k...although he has a different tranny so his rpms may be different...the point, most people won't drive that slow to optimize fuel milage.
I have the same intake and a 4" straight piped exhaust but no programmer - yet.
I actually did see 27 mpg once but i had a 50 mph tail wind (with gust to 60) and i was only driving 55 mph on level ground...

I say a 7.3 with those mods would be lucky to see an average mpg of 18...very lucky

well that's what i was thinking. i know the 7.3's didn't do much better than mid teens for mileage plus this guy's pushing 35's and a lift.

Dave Whitmore holds the unoffical record with 26mpg. He is involved with FOKISD and was in Diesel Power for it a while back.

His truck is an Ext. cab long bed Super duty with a 6-speed, 4x2, 3.08 gears, a custom programmed chip for fuel economy, and he has a cover constructed over the bed to make it more aerodynamic.

So I will call BS on the 27 mpg as well on a 4x4. I know people on TDS have said 20mpg with some trucks which is believable because I used to get around 18-19mpg with my truck when it had stock nozzles and 3.55's

I say it is BS also. The best mileage I ever got was 20 mpg, all highway. But I usually average 17 mpg with an AFE Stg 2 intake and B20. With dino diesel, I get 16 mpg. I am going to get a 4" straight pipe exhaust and a TS chip within the next few days, so hopefully I can get back to the 20+ mpg

I use to get 24mpg with my 03 Duramax. The big C get around 18mpg... Ive never heard or seen a 7.3L get 27mpg.

That is too much, my father have gotten 20mpg once or twice and that is at like 58mph....which is a death sentence on Mass. highways.

I have a 01 F350 with the 7.3, K&N air intake,4" Magnaflow exhaust and an Edge Juice programmer and the best I can get on the highway is 18 mpg @ 70 mph. if I go over 72 mph the mileage starts to drop.
