Saw a 500hp Common Rail get smashed by a relatively stockish 7.3 today

9mm- smoke doesnt always equal power.. hell, he could have had a smoke-switch hooked up for all anybody knows (the guy you beat). But the commonrail was POURING smoke and the powerstroke was running VERY clean.
Kaz- I wouldn't say I'm 'clueless'.. the cummins owner told me what he was running in his truck. Granted, I didn't talk to the 7.3 guy, but the turbo wasn't thundering loud and he wasn't billowing smoke, plus the truck looked pretty plain jane (a work truck, perhaps?), so something says it wasn't crazy modified. Also thanks for the explanation on splits vs singles. I know the splits are supposed to be quieter, but thanks for the explanation on oil usage in the splits.

Ya the cummins was a 6spd. The OWNER told me he's doing a 4wheel launch.. but his buddy said his 4wheel isn't working (took out the axles or some isht) and was launching in 2nd gear.
Honestly I dont remember the exact time for the cummins, but it was pretty slow and lost every race he ran. My TDI pulled on him too (on the street though) and I'm running at half-boost and untuned

You sure the reg cab Ford wasn't a 6.0? It could have easily run a mid 13 in a reg cab with nothing more than a custom tune and easily spanked a 500hp manual trans Dodge.
Obviously anyone who has been to the drag strip or knows anything about drag racing would know a big smoky burnout on street tires is completely useless. A quick turn of the tires to clean them off is ok, but there is no point in heating up a street tire. Obviously the guy in the Ford knew what he was doing and the guy in the Dodge did not.
