Default 96 ford psd

I have a 96 ford f250 powerstroke, it has a little problem and i dont know what the hell it is. I drive down the road and the truck runs great, all of the sudden it kind of "hiccups". I dont know how else to explain it, its like the injectors cut off for a split second and the engine dies and as fast as it happens, it goes right back to normal. I have good oil pressure and a new fuel filter. the check engine light IS NOT coming. at first i thought the fuel pump might be going, but it does it with both tanks. as far as i know, each tank has its own pump. It didnt do it while i was using Howels diesel fuel treatment, but it seams like ever since i stopped using it is when the "hiccups" started. it starts right up every time. I do have a turbo timer on the truck, but it still does it even when i unhook it. i was wondering if it could be the spring and ball where the fuel filter goes in because i know if you take the filter out the truck will not run. maybe it is malfunctioning? Please help me out, i dont feel like going to the dealership and getting robbed.

I suspect the cam position sensor. Can you pull the codes?

Sounds like a cam sensor or a IPR issue...

There is only one fuel pump on your truck, its in the Valley of the motor. It runs off a lobe on the cam.

Its not a fuel issue

I will take the truck to advanced auto and have them check the codes for me. I am hoping it is just something simple. I was driving it yesterday and i was sitting at a red light and all of the sudden the truck shut down. It started right back up tho.

CPS gets my vote. It takes me 30 minutes to swap out, but I'm a disabled vet with back issues.

You could probably change it out in less than 10 minutes.

I went to advance auto and had them hook up the computer and there were no codes at all. I am hoping it is just the cam sensor. any idea on how much one would cost and where exactly is it located and do i need any special tools?
