I have an 85 ford f-250 and the 6.9 engine only has 40,000 on it im wanting to get a turbo kit for it but not sure where or what kind to get. it's 4x4 with 355's 4-speed manual if you guys have any suggestions that would be great or know of any cheap, good kits that would also be great.

Default 7.3 idi turbo conversion

I recently purchased a 1993 f-250 7.3l idi. I turned my injection pump up a half turn and am looking into buying a pyrometer so I can go farther. But my main question is, does anyone know if I could take a turbo off of a powerstroke and install it on my 7.3? If anyone knows anything please comment back. Thank you.

Default heres the thing

Ur best bet with the idi being it has a cast iron block which is weaker then the powerstroke block. Would be to get a turbo kit from hypermax.com they make turbo kits speciffically for the ford engines. See the problem is that a turbo off of a power strokemay y it may bolt up. Not sure on tha one but it may. The issue is the idi block will only hold about 10 to 12 pounds of boost with out blowing head gaskets or basically melting. These blocks were not made for crazy heat or egt's. And tje more boost or air means more fuel witch more heat. bad thing for these blocks.. There has Ben rumors of 15 pound of boost that I know of. If u get an intercooler u maybe could. Pyrometer is a must not an option with these blocks. And the turbo for the stroker may put out way to much boost beings they r desinged to put out up to. Like 30 pounds of boost. So hypermax is the way to go they will only put out 12 pounds they cannot b adjusted they r non wastegated cuz they don't need em. So go fond there website n c what they for goin on. Have fun bro

Thanks man. Also I'm gna put 4 in. Exhaust on it, do I need new headers or can I just get the pipe put straight on? Cause I'm not sure but it doesnt seem like it comes out of the manifold that big. Idk, I'm very interested in mechanics but I'm still learning! I'm only seventeen so I have alot to learn! Thanks
