So with the powerstroke being a dedicated turbo'd motor their was no change to the cam profile to take full advantage of having the turbo????? WTF? That dosent make good sense. They totaly redesign the motor and fail to optimize it for the turbo.... I guess changing to the DI fuel system with electronic control made enough of a differance they didn't bother with tweaking the cam also. So much for that angle.....

Thats what I said!..... The turbo fills the cylinder faster and the computer adds more fuel to burn based on the info it gathers from the sensers. This makes more power even with the same cam profile. changing the valve timing to open the intake valve just a little sooner, and open a little farther close faster will make the engine consume more air under boost. opening the exhaust valve sooner will use some of the exhaust gas to spool the turbo sooner open the valve faster, farther and close it just a few degree's sooner keeps the lobe sepperation good and the overlap to a minimum. This makes the engine pull hard to 3800RPM "on the computer engine analyzer" this also makes valve float a concern, but with new valve springs this wont be a problem. the piston valve clearance shouldent be a problem because the exhaust valve is closing at a faster rate and hits the seat a few degree's sooner than stock. and the piston is moving down the cylinder faster than the valve is opening during the intake stroke. "the valve starts to open before top dead center but the valve is recessed in the head so it can be at .050 lift at tdc and still not hit the piston. well I did some tests with the stock valve timing but with more lift and there is a improvement in power, but not as much as the new timing did. I am sending another email to scott, seems like he is taking to long to get back to me on this..... Waiting Sucks.

i love reading this thread. at least somebody is trying to unveal the (power) stroke no offense but a cummins is so much easier to build up this almost makes me want to get another powerstroke and fool with the whole motor

cant seem to get scott to email me back Im calling delta on monday I was told to talk to Ken so I will try to get a hold of him so I can get this info checked out. I got wind of a grind he has that is verry close to my numbers, I need to get the specs and compare them to my specs. if its close enuff I might be happy with his grind, this waiting for info just sucks.

OK.....Got Ken on the phone, talked to him for a while about cams and stuff. also found out that my info on the delta torq cam might be inaccurate. I got the original numbers from one of TYP4 threads about the torq cam. come to find out the specs i got from scott on the cam are a little bit more agresive than the info I got from TYP4 ..... now I need to recheck that to confirm it for sure..... the torq cam is a verry good cam for this engine but I just want a little more agressive profile..... Now that someone is looking into my Questions I should here something back soon..

Bump...... OK got some feedback from ken at delta. It seems that to get a cam lobe ground requires a blank that is ground to the shape of the lobe you want then your cam is reground to the new shape. Using this tool to run the machine, The list of available lobe blanks to use from more than 25 years of reginding cams is quite large. The valve timing and lobe centers can be ajusted based on available room on the cam to do so. "You dont want to remove to much from the base circle" Grinding to my specs would require building tooling to match my lobe. So I have found a few lobes from the chart that are verry close to what I want so I think I will go with one of them. Now the bad news. Last tuesday my Wifes 2001 mitsu eclipse broke the timing belt 5 miles from home. And yes its a interfirance engine. This means the valves are bent. So all available funds are going into repairs on the car. And I am on my motorcycle until I get the Job done. She will be using my F150 to go to College. this means more delays on this project.

OK gona replace the engine with a wrecking yard engine, 850.00 plus a new mitsubishi timing belt. is less money than rebuilding the head on the 126,000 mile original engine, with professional labor. (I don't have exp rebuilding mitsubishi ) the replacment is an 03 with 61,000 miles. with a warranty..... my son and I will R and R the engine, and the wife will be happy to get her car back. looks like I might have to sell one of my racecar chassis to pay for it though.....
