Default Cheap college student looking to make some performance upgrades

Can you guys recommend some good upgrades that are fairly cheap, such as air intakes and exhaust kits. I would love to add a turbo to my rig (91 7.3 IDI) but don't think I can afford it. I have noticed that the muffler is starting to rust out, so it may be in the exhaust shop soon anyways.

I want to squeeze out a little bit more power, as well as some mpgs. I'm not one of those rednecks who thinks its badass to roll coal, thats just ******* dumb and a waste of fuel.

Any advice is appreciated.

take your factory air cleaner off and throw on a 14x6" K&N air filter ... good start there .. yeah start with bigger primary pipes from manifold then expand them to a 4" pipe .. I have dyno max muffler .. it rumbles but not irritating ..... look up the post for turning up Injection Pump .. believe it was statred by DieselCrawler ... or PM him he knows more than I know as far as technical stuff ... do ur self a favor though .. toss out the idea of a trubo and forget u thought about it .. too expencive to bother for only a few HP
