I can't stand the sound when my external wastegate opens. Makes me thinck Ihave a exhaust manifold leak. It does sound cool when it opens on a real hard downshift with a trailer

No problem man. I know how that feels to have a ton of questions and no one a straight answer let alone one at all.

Hummin, I don't know why you wouldn't like the sound. Mine isn't overpowering loud and sounds nothing like an exhaust leak. What diameter waste gate is it? Think it could be too small for the application therefore causing. More high pitched note at release?

I have a 38mm wastegate
When I am towing 38 to 42K it is a constant dump. Its not a high pitch.

End info was that the Watergate ended up being removed. The pressure was regulated through a regulator that I had laying around and in all honesty I would have left it in besides the fact that the exhaust gasses chew through the diaphragm in a matter of a month or so. Changed out the third diaphragm and said no more.
