Default What happens if I put a tuner on and dont change the stock exhaust?

Ok I know Im paranoid but heres my question.

I have 07.5 6.7 all stock. I know I need a tuner and that will help with fuel mileage. I know doing the DPF delete will help as well. My fear is if I go to a TBE exhaust and I get pulled over and they see that Im sure there will be a nice hefty fine that I cant afford.

SOOOO I was thinking of doing a H&S BlackMaxx with EGR delete. Keep the stock exhaust for a while and then if no problems change it out. What do I have to do to get the best performance out of what I have and still have a stock exhaust. If I put the DPF deletes in but leave the stock exhaust I figure I cant get spanked as bad.

Your truly

Paranoid

I hope Im making sense here

I dont think h&s has the option to run tuning with the dpf still on, if you get another programmer that can tune the truck with out shutting off the emmissions you can do that. Depending on which one you get you can run a mild tune, which will give you alittle better milage, and it wont put out enough soot to make regen more. If you run the bigger tunes on some of the programmers they will just fill up the dpf sooner and you will regen alot more, so the milage gain you got by the programmer will be lost with the extra regens.

You can run the H&S with the DPF still in the truck but it will not do any of the emissions deletes that way and the power levels are 0-120HP instead off the 0-175HP of the delete tuning. It take the dpf delete tuning to be installed with race exhaust to remove the egr system code free. DO NOT run the dpf delete software with the DPF in the truck. Just get the the delete pipes at the same time

when i first got my truck in 08 i bought a juice for a little more power and mpg. well the mpgs went down because of more regen cycles. now i use the juice for gauges and the smarty does the tuning. tuners on a dpf truck that is present is not a good idea.

Idk if you cross state lines a lot and worried about being in other states, but in Iowa there are no emissions testing so you shouldn't have much to worry about. I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids and never heard of anyone having problems. I know one of the owners of Empire Diesel in Dubuque and it seems as though there is a lot of enthusiest in that area doing deletes and having no problems with checks either. Good luck with what ever you decide on, I understand trying to figure out the best route, don't want to do something you didn't need to.

Iowa doesnt have any emission laws and the iowa DOT will not fine u for aftermarket exhaust. We do our DOT inspection every year and they never have fined us or told us to put emissions back on. We also run to Nebraska, illonois, michigan, minnesota, south dakots, and north dakota and we stop at all the scales and such and have never had any troubles and our trucks are straight piped so i would just do the deletes u have nothing to worry about. We also recently made a run to Texas by dallas and had no issues as well
