There is nothing wrong with drop in filters if you want to keep the stock box. With that said I check mine and clean them often.

Drop in's are fine. Just don't overlook the fact they, along with all oiled filters require more maintanence is all.

i hear guys swear up and down about dry flow filters... the oiled ones do require alot of maintenance, but i do agree with the DR. hold a K&N up to the light sometime... some of the holes would let a fruit fly through if it didnt have wings, this can cause some pretty bad "dusting" on the intake tubes, which reflect what the rest of the intake system is holding... turbo, air to air, manifold, head; you name it... its dusted

great filter!! i have a K&N cold air intake on my durango... and love it!! granted its the intake set up, but still. id say get the intake if you going to spend the money anyway. i clean my filter every other oil change, they say do it every 50k miles... but mine gets pretty damn dirty at every other oil change...

Yes, but that is on a DAKOTA - not a Cummins. Thats comparing apples to watermelons. As I already said - the Cummins need a lot of air and the K&N lets through a lot of dirt (If I remember correctly they are only 3 layers of guaze)...some of the better filters like a S&B are 7 or 8 layers. Just my opinion of course.

Sorry DURANGO.....

Of course, there is always a trade off between flow and filtration....in general, the more flow you have the less filtration and vice versa. The trick is getting good filtration and good flow - thats what makes for a good filter (at least in my mind).

as said before i've heard the dry flows are pretty good... which i believe S&B fall into that category, i'd rather have beter filtration and just put a monster filter in to make up for the added restriction with surface area
