Default EGR blocker plates

I was talking to my buddy today and he wants to do an egr delete to his truck now that he has all the bugs worked out of his dpf delete and i do alot of metal working as well. now heres my question he asked me if i could make him up some egr blocker plates for his truck but my concern is all i have is steel and iron plating would that be ok to use or should he just go and buy the blocker plates like i did?

youll be fine , just use the gaskets as the templates. and you should use 3/8 at least on the intake side, i have seem the flex and loose boost pressure.

Steel will be fine as long as you make sure the gasket side of the plate is good and flat. Keep your surface finish on the gasket side no smoother than about 250. That way it will get a good bite on the gasket and be less likely to leak. A fairly uniform pattern from a 60 grit grinding disc will do the trick. As was mentioned before, the gasket makes a good template if that's all you have available.

Go to AGRI Supply or a Farm supply place and get yourself some heavy duty washers with the same diameter. Then weld it shut. That is what I did and it works great. I do a lot of metal work to include black smithing too.
This was the fastest and cheapest way to get something perfectly fiting the existing clamps at each end of EGR pipe.

I recommend that he should not do anything till he get a Smarty or whatever lese and then do all the mods all together at the same time. (EGR and DPF delete, and then use Smarty version ME to take care of the regen issues).

I went through painfull way of removing EGR first and then others one at the time because Smarty was not available.
Now that there is a Smarty for 6.7L engines, then he should do it the right way!
